Background / About the owner:

Diane Auxillou is the third of four daughters born to Belizean educator, Ilna Alamina of Caye Caulker, and British ex-pat, Raymond Auxillou (Jr.).

She is well traveled around the world, holds dual-citizenship with Belize as well as Great Britain, and is a home owner & resident of the USA as well as Belize.

As Diane recalls ~ Growing up on the island was an adventure!  While mom did everything she could to keep us on the straight and narrow, dad did everything he could to remind us throughout childhood that there was a whole lot of life and world beyond the Caye Caulker shoreline.

We were paging through our monthly subscription of National Geographic magazines and exploring the Mayan Ruins of Belize way back in the early 1970's.  We also sailed the remote islands along the Belizean coast in our various family built sloops - Sail Fish, Atoll Queen, or Buccaneer.

Enterprising grandparents, Marina & Valentin Alamina owned the very first grocery store on the island, located across the street from the Police Station.  Grandfather, Valentin Alamina also fished for a trade and custom built sailing sloops for family and patrons alike, some of which were big enough to accommodate 2 inboard Volvo diesel engines.  One such boat - designed & built by my dad, Cap'n Ray, Grandpa Valentin Alamina, and Uncle Norman Alamina - was the remarkable Atoll Queen.  It could accommodate ample guests lounging on the upper deck, as well as a few others in the sleeping cabins, or kitchen / dining area below.  There was also a toilet / shower on board.

Mother: Ilna Alamina - Auxillou was hand-picked for her intelligence and began training to become an educator at the tender age of 14yrs.  As expected, she passed all the Teacher's exams Belize offered with ease and was later granted various scholarships by the Ministry of Education / Government of Belize, to study abroad in Jamaica, the USA, and finally Leeds University in England.  She was the very first local school principal on the island; a career in education than spanned more than 30 years.

Father: Cap'n Ray also taught at the C.C.R.C. School in Caye Caulker for a while before venturing off for a more exciting experience.  Aided by first rate locally designed & custom built boats, Cap'n Ray lead the way in tourism on the island in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  Our tourist lodge in that era catered mostly to international Marine Biology student groups enthralled with the Belize Barrier Reef and the newly famous Blue Hole.

Caye Caulker Realty, Owner: Diane Auxillou bought her very first island property on Caye Caulker when she was in her early 20's.  She is since very well invested on the island and has garnered much entrepreneurial experience over the last 20+ years, experimenting with various small business ideas including: a retail gift shop, a travel agency, an insurance agency, a cafe / restaurant, beachfront vacation rentals, property management and real estate.
