The Caye Caulker Lobster Festival is the original lobster festival in Belize.  It was first organized as a fund raising event by the Islanders Football Club in Caye Caulker, Belize.  It is typically held during the last weekend in June, celebrating the annual reopening of the Lobster Season on June 15th.  This year's Lobster Fest event will be held on June 25, 26 & 27th.

What to expect:

Friday - A big part of the festival is the beauty pageant held on opening night.  Several young ladies compete to become the reigning Miss Lobster Fest for the season.  The competition includes modeling in swimsuit, beach or sportswear and formal wear.  Another segment of the pageant is the talent competition in which the ladies perform songs, poems, monologues, or skits depicting the fishing industry in Caye Caulker.  Performances  are usually colourful, entertaining events with props & costumes.  The selected contestant reigns as queen, or "Miss Lobster Fest",  over the current Lobster Festival that weekend.

Saturday - An all day abundance of seafood & music!  Beach parties, volleyball competitions, water sports, swimming, ice box & picnics abound.  A live band performs at the Lobster Fest dance that night.

Sunday - By now the streets are usually littered with signs of a festival at full blast.  Assuming there would be a shortage of hotels for the festival weekend, many people from the mainland or neighbouring islands swing by in the private boats for a day on Caye Caulker with family and friends.  There is no shortage of food, booze or music.....not to mention white sandy streets, luminous waters, white foamy waves crashing on the barrier reef beyond....oh, and sunshine!
